Windemere believes in well-rounded riders and offers a wide-range of lesson programs in both English and Western equestrian sports. Focus on one area of riding, or learn something new from our qualified instructors and safe, skilled lesson horses.
We teach our students the important foundations in both riding and working with horses. All of our students learn to safely handle horses, groom, tack up and the core fundamentals of riding before progressing to the next level.
Our English riders learn the basics of English riding and continuously improve their hunt-seat equitation and hunt seat-seat riding skills. Our riders routinely place highly in hunt-seat classes at local, regional and national shows.
For our riders that have mastered the basics and have a secure and independent seat, we offer over fences classes. Our students are given the opportunity to be educated over the fence height that is appropriate for their level. Our riders routinely placing well in classes at local, regional and national shows.
Trail and ranch riding covers a wide-range of Western riding skills including navigating trail obstacles and negotiating patterns and cow work. Our Trail/Ranch riders show frequently on the ranch circuit are accomplished in the arena by placing well locally, regionally and nationally.
Horse ownership required. Reining lessons are offered to our students that have purchased a reining horse as lesson horses are not currently available for this discipline. Riders in the reining program will have the opportunity to compete in reining events and reining classes in ApHC shows.
Horse ownership required. Windemere maintains a herd of cows on property used in our cow horse disciplines, including roping as well as mechanical practice cows. Students interested in roping and cow horse events are able to work on their skills under the supervisor of our trainers.
Teresa Pennington is the founder and head trainer at Windemere Equestrian. She has over 30 years of professional riding instruction experience. Teresa's training program focuses on the health and safety of her students and horses, teaching correct equitation and riding skills and for those students who are interested in showing, the development of a riding program to meet their showing goals. In addition to instruction, Teresa is a recognized horse show judge.
Joan Werner is a full-time instructor and trainer at Windemere. She develops her student’s riding skills in multiple disciplines including hunter, western ranch/trail. Joan takes her students to local, regional and national level shows. Joan is a large promoter and supporter of the ranch horse circuit. She holds her judge’s card in many different associations.
